From soccer fields to basketball courts and derby tracks, Vanessa has never felt more at home than on a yoga mat. The challenge, acceptance, and mind-body connection kept her coming back to the mat again and again since 2006. Deepening her practice, Vanessa became a 2014 graduate of Wake Up Yoga’s 250-hour Foundational Teacher Training Program with Corina Benner, Felicia Graham Comisar, and Kate DeRosa Howell. Fueled by love and the desire to learn more, Vanessa continued her studies in Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Corina Benner and an introduction to Vedic Thai Massage with Mukti. Specializing in Yin and Restorative Yoga, Vanessa blends thoughtful sequencing, hands-on Thai massage-based adjustments, and essential oils, leaving you open and relaxed.
What’s surprising about you that people might not know?
I played roller derby for five years, and I still answer to the name Thrash.
What's your family like?
My husband and I have been together for the better part of a decade. Our son Jack is the best of both of us. Our two cats allow us to live with them, along with the houseplants I’ve managed to keep alive over the years.
What excites you about teaching yoga?
With yoga, you are always practicing. With yoga, you are always a student. Whether a student has sweated their way from a vigorous vinyasa flow or eased their way from a deep restorative pose, the sweet sounds of Savasana are the best reward.
