Melissa is a certified Vinyasa and Yin teacher through the Wake Up Yoga YTT program. Having practiced yoga for almost a decade at various establishments in and around the Philadelphia area, it wasn't until she walked into Wake Up Yoga on Passyunk Avenue, that she felt truly at home. Turning to yoga as a place to help deal with the constant demands of raising a chronically ill child, it helped her to form an identity outside of her role of "mom" and as an individual. She brings a lightness and sense of humor to each of her carefully crafted classes.
What do you love most about Wake Up Yoga?
I love Wake Up Yoga for so many reasons! The message of inclusivity, cultivation of self-acceptance, and love, just to name a few!
What's your family like?
I have been married for 19 years to the love of my life, Troy. We have two children, our daughter Faith, 20, who you may see practicing at the studio, and our son Elijah, 19. I am also an equal opportunity pet lover. I currently have two dogs, Mortimer Brewster and Lulu, and two cats, Norah Noonle Palmer, and Juno. You can tell I like movies and pop culture, right?
What causes do you support?
Light the Night, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the National Kidney Foundation. I recently lost a dear friend after her second battle with cancer, and together with a large group of friends, we walk as part of Christy's Crew to raise funds to help eradicate cancer. I also support the NKF for my son who has been dialysis dependent for 18 years.
