Khalief Walker

Recovering from a near-death vehicle accident, Khalief utilized the practice of yoga as one of the many natural holistic healing methods to overcome his physical and emotional injuries. With a background in athletics and holistic healing, in addition to a musical background as a world traveling artist, Khalief developed relationships with like-minded professional athletes and coaches, which led him to co-create ASAM (Athletic Sports Asana & Mindfulness) YOGA. After completing his yoga teacher training program at Wake Up Yoga in 2016, Khalief began to develop an athletic style of yoga tailored to athletes and practitioners of all levels, incorporating mindfulness. His love for handstands, inversion arm balances, and overall fitness have led Khalief to develop a well-rounded practice that strengthens the mind and body through mindfulness and movement. On his journey, Khalief found himself working with yoga studios, gyms, Division I university sports teams, professional sports organizations, and professional athletes. His journey continues.

What is the most meaningful lesson that yoga has taught you?

Ahimsa — the principle of nonviolence toward all living things. Not only in my actions but also in my thoughts and speech. Noticing how a thought creates a ripple effect that can cause me and others harm. 

Where was your most memorable travel destination?

Egypt. Egypt is where I decided to try yoga full-time and step away from music. While on a music tour there, I visited the pyramids, and something inside me was moved that prompted me chose a new life path.

Do you have a "day job"?

My regular full-time work is in real estate. I like the freedom and ability to work from anywhere.
