Carmen began practicing yoga in 2008, initially only seeking physical benefits. After a couple of years, she felt rumblings of something more and journeyed to Kripalu for four days. She began to learn that there is so much more to yoga than she had ever imagined! In 2015, she completed Wake Up Yoga's Foundational Teacher Training as well as Yin Teacher Training with the wise and inspiring Corina Benner. She also completed Restorative Yoga Training with Felicia Graham Comisar and Vanessa Jackson. She is forever grateful to all of her teachers who guide and support her along this path of self-inquiry.
What's the most interesting place you’ve ever lived?
I studied abroad twice. In high school, I went to Spain for ten months, and in college, I lived in Ecuador for a semester. Both were amazing experiences, but Ecuador tops the list! It is an absolutely beautiful country — with beaches, the rainforest, volcanoes!
Do you have a "day job"?
I am a high school teacher at a small school in West Philly. I teach Spanish, math, yoga, and whatever else is needed there!
What music do you enjoy most?
I am very fortunate to be married to a talented musician; he introduces me to a lot of great music. The last few years, I have been getting into jazz, blues, funk, and a little bluegrass. I grew up playing the violin, so I still like classical music and love classic rock.
