Vanessa Mock

Vanessa was introduced to a yoga asana practice back in college. It wasn't until 2004, that she stumbled upon a beginner's yoga class with Jill Manning that created a more devoted and consistent practice. She fell in love with not only the way the asanas made her body feel, but also the challenges it produced physically and mentally. One thing led to the next, and a few years later Vanessa was accepted into the 200 hour Wake Up Yoga teacher training program. She graduated in 2007 and has been teaching ever since. She intends to start her 500 hour Pranakriya teacher training with Yoganand Michael Carroll in March 2009.

Besides teaching yoga, Vanessa is also an NSCA certified personal trainer, a Pilates teacher and is certified in multiple group fitness formats. She has been involved in the fitness field for over 6 years, and applies her knowledge from her past fitness trainings to her teaching.

Vanessa's teaching style infuses soft strength, harmonizing asanas from one to the next in hopes to create a one-minded focus and being present. She realizes and emphasizes the importance of correct alignment to not only deepen one's practice, but also sustain it without injury. She has a great sense of how far one can be sweetly adjusted in a pose due to her experience of stretching techniques used with her personal training clientel.

Besides teaching, Vanessa enjoys being in the company of friends & family, traveling (traveled to India with WUY crew), art, photography, sewing, and yes, relaxin' on the couch watching a movie with a bowl of ice cream.

Vanessa lives with her husband, David, and two cats, Rufus & Milo, in their beautiful home in Roxborough. She is overjoyed with teaching at WUY and being part of it's homegrown community.
