Alane Benson
Alane began practicing yoga in 2006. Initially she viewed yoga as a hobby, an interest that might just add bi-weekly zest to her life. Little did she expect this hobby would change her life entirely! Through the skilled guidance of her teachers, Alane discovered the practice of asana as a means to diving under the movements of the mind (always, in her case, manic) and experiencing stillness...if only for a few breaths. Having fallen in love with the practice and preaching its benefits to her friends, she transformed her relationship with yoga by participating in Wake Up Yoga's 2008-2009 Teacher Training program under the devoted and sage guidance of her beloved teachers, Corina Benner and Jill Manning. Alane's classes are fueled by the desire to encourage each student to discover their vibrant strength and extend beyond their perceived limitations...remembering the most powerful limitations are those we place on ourselves. The practice of asana offers the training ground to develop the tools necessary to navigate life off the mat. Life off the mat offers delights, challenges, and relationships that fuel our practice on the mat. Both practices make available the experiences we require to transcend our familiar patterns and, through the working of the fruits of our efforts and much grace, foster the discover of our truest self.
Alane lives in West Philly. When not teaching, practicing, or administrating yoga, Alane can be found sharing tea with friends, catching up with her family in Pittsburgh, reading, and enjoying long walks-- often accompanied by her boyfriend, Jeremy, and a bar of dark chocolate.
